Turn coordinator

A turn coordinator whose little airplane banks 20 degrees at standard rate, with a slip ball that has real mass and damping. It has an electric gyro with an OFF flag, a built-in timer for timed turns, and four faces including a 4-minute dial and a needle turn-and-slip.

Variants

Turn coordinatorv1.0
Generic low-wing aircraft seen from behind, 2-minute marks.
Instrument picker > FACE > Turn coordinator

C172v1.0
A high-wing 172 seen from behind (wing over the cabin, struts, wheels).
FACE > C172

4 minv1.0
Marked for half standard rate (1.5 deg/s), 4 MIN. on the dial; the timer counts heading change at 1.5 deg/s.
FACE > 4 min

Turn and slipv1.0
A needle under doghouse marks: shows turn rate only (no roll lead), no OFF flag.
FACE > Turn and slip
Features
- Little airplane banks 20 degrees at standard rate (3 deg/s; 1.5 deg/s on the 4-minute face)
- Canted gyro: the airplane tips as soon as a roll begins, then settles at the turn rate
- Slip ball in a curved glass tube: lags, overshoots a sharp rudder input, rests against the end in a strong slip
- Electric gyro: spins up with the battery and down without it; reads less as it slows; red OFF flag without power or when slow
- Timer for timed turns: shows seconds and the heading change at the face's rate
- Realistic needles (Settings > Instruments: Off / Light / Normal / Strong): spring-mass needle motion with overshoot and engine vibration (more on the ground)
- Red X across the face when its data is missing or stale, instead of a believable wrong reading
- Night lighting: the face takes the panel's red flood light, the glareshield's warm light from above (stronger for instruments higher on the page) and its own light, a lamp hidden at the top of the case lighting the dial downward (Settings > Dimmers: Red flood light, Glareshield, Instruments (analog))
On the iPad
- Tap the '2 MIN.' / '4 MIN.' label to start or stop the timer
- Tap elsewhere on the face to change the instrument
Settings
- Face: Turn coordinator / C172 / 4 min / Turn and slip (instrument picker)
- Realistic needles: Off / Light / Normal / Strong
Simulator data
What the Hub reads from the simulator for this instrument, and what the instrument sends back. Names are the simulators' own: MSFS SimVars and events, X-Plane datarefs and commands.

Add-on aircraft with their own systems may use other variables; the Hub reads the standard ones.
Changes
The instrument's version counts what its faces share (the case, the mechanism, the data, the sounds); a face's own version counts that face alone.
