MSFS: the Headingstar panel

The Headingstar panel (Headingstar Link) is a small panel on the simulator’s toolbar. It’s optional: the instruments work without it. While it’s open it:

  • reads the flight plan the simulator has, including the one set on MSFS 2024’s tablet (EFB), and sends it to the Hub. In the app, use Flight Plan → Load from Sim, or let it load by itself.
  • sends the airspaces within 100 nm of the aircraft every 30 seconds, which the app draws on its maps. SimConnect doesn’t provide them; the panel reads them from the simulator, as its own avionics do.
  1. In the Headingstar Hub, choose Simulator panel → Install in MSFS. The Hub finds the simulator’s Community folder (MSFS 2020 and 2024, Microsoft Store and Steam) and puts the panel there.
  2. Restart the simulator.

Remove in the same place takes it away again.

  1. Run the Headingstar Hub on the simulator’s PC.
  2. In the simulator, open the Headingstar panel from the toolbar. It shows HUB connected. The panel can be small; it just has to be open.
  3. Set a flight plan (the tablet, the world map, or the avionics). The panel shows it under PLAN and sends it at once, and again whenever it changes. Send to Headingstar sends it now.

The panel talks only to the Hub on the same computer: nothing leaves your PC.
