EDM 700-style engine monitor

EDM 700-style engine monitor

A round engine monitor with an orange display on black: a bar column for each cylinder's EGT with its CHT shown as a missing or lit dash, an oil temperature column, and big seven-segment digits. It has STEP and LeanFind buttons: LeanFind tracks each cylinder's peak while you lean and tells you the first and last to peak, rich or lean of peak.

Features

  • 4 or 6 cylinder columns (by aircraft), EGT over the top 600 °F of the scale; each cylinder's CHT as a dash against a printed 300-500 scale
  • Oil temperature column in percent of its limit
  • Pct view, or Normalize: the bars level at mid-height, then 10 °F a segment so a change in one cylinder shows at once
  • STEP pages: each cylinder's EGT and CHT, then GPH, fuel used, volts, oil temp and DIF (hottest minus coolest EGT); Auto scan, a page every 4 s
  • LeanFind: each cylinder's peak marked, the first to peak blinking; LEAN / SLOWER / RICH / LF / ROP / LOP hints and the degrees from peak; a click and a haptic buzz at the first peak
  • Alarms, blinking in the digits: CHT over red line, oil temp/pressure out of limits, shock cooling (CLD, CHT falling more than 60 °F/min), low volts (bAt); a button push acknowledges
  • Fuel used integrated from the fuel flow, kept running even when the monitor is not on screen
  • Each cylinder is modeled slightly apart from the sim's single EGT/CHT so leaning shows a realistic first and last peak
  • Night: the case and buttons take the red flood light (and the glareshield's light when its dimmer is up), the orange display stays lit
  • Red X when fuel flow or EGT is missing

Your aircraft: Cylinder count from the profile (4 for C172SP, C152, PA-28, DA40 NG, DA62; 6 otherwise); EGT scale top, CHT and oil red lines, oil pressure limits, low-volts line and cruise fuel flow from the engine limits. Twins: one monitor per engine and an L / R mark on the display. A generic profile: 6 cylinders and wide default scales with no red lines (so no CHT, oil or low-volts alarms).

On the iPad

  • Tap STEP for the next page; hold STEP to switch Auto / Manual scan
  • Tap LeanFind to start or stop LeanFind; hold it to toggle Normalize
  • With an alarm showing, any push only acknowledges it
  • Long press elsewhere asks to change the instrument

Settings

  • ENGINE (twin aircraft only): Left engine, Right engine

Simulator data

What the Hub reads from the simulator for this instrument, and what the instrument sends back. Names are the simulators' own: MSFS SimVars and events, X-Plane datarefs and commands.

Add-on aircraft with their own systems may use other variables; the Hub reads the standard ones.

Changes

The instrument's version counts what its faces share (the case, the mechanism, the data, the sounds); a face's own version counts that face alone.
