Fuel quantity

A round cluster gauge showing the left and right tank quantities in gallons, each needle on its own half-scale, as on a C172's panel. The scale and its red low-fuel arc follow the aircraft's tank size; a C152-style face with two small rectangular dials is the other variant.

Variants

C172 stylev1.0
One round case, LEFT and RIGHT half-scales
Picker, FACE: C172 style

C152 stylev1.0
Two small rectangular dials on a black strip (the fuelMini instrument)
Picker, FACE: C152 style
Features
- LEFT and RIGHT half-scales in GAL, the full mark at the top
- Number spacing adapts to the tank size (every 5 gal on a small tank, wider on big ones)
- Red arc below the profile's low-fuel line
- Red X when either tank's value is missing or stale
- Realistic needles (Settings): the fuel needles swing and shake with the engine
- Night lighting: the face takes the panel's red flood light, the glareshield's warm light from above (stronger for instruments higher on the page) and its own light, a lamp hidden at the top of the case lighting the dial downward (Settings > Dimmers: Red flood light, Glareshield, Instruments (analog))
Your aircraft: Tank capacity (scale) and the red low line come from the profile (e.g. C172SP 0-28 gal, red below 5). A generic profile (an aircraft the Hub doesn't know) gets wide default scales with no bands or red lines (0-100 gal).
On the iPad
- No knobs: a tap on the face asks to change the instrument
Settings
- FACE: C172 style, C152 style
- Global: Realistic needles
Simulator data
What the Hub reads from the simulator for this instrument, and what the instrument sends back. Names are the simulators' own: MSFS SimVars and events, X-Plane datarefs and commands.
Reads
| Value | MSFS | X-Plane |
|---|---|---|
| Left main tank quantity (gal) | FUEL TANK LEFT MAIN QUANTITY (gallons) | sim/cockpit2/fuel/fuel_quantity[0] |
| Right main tank quantity (gal) | FUEL TANK RIGHT MAIN QUANTITY (gallons) | sim/cockpit2/fuel/fuel_quantity[1] |
Add-on aircraft with their own systems may use other variables; the Hub reads the standard ones.
Changes
The instrument's version counts what its faces share (the case, the mechanism, the data, the sounds); a face's own version counts that face alone.
