What you need

  • Windows 10 or 11, running one of:
    • Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 or 2024
    • X-Plane 11 or 12
  • The Headingstar Hub (Install the Hub). It includes everything it needs; there’s nothing else to install.
  • For MSFS: the small SimConnect.dll library that every external MSFS program uses. If you have MobiFlight or the MSFS SDK, the Hub finds it by itself. Otherwise see SimConnect.
  • iOS or iPadOS 15 or later.
  • On an iPad: a full panel of six instruments, or up to twenty-four cells per page (6 × 4 on a large iPad), Avionics on the whole screen, and the FlightBook with Apple Pencil.
  • On an iPhone, held upright: two instruments per page, the flight display, the map, the FlightBook, and the Remote, a touch controller for the navigator. Ideal beside your main screen.
  • The Live Activity needs iOS 18 or later; the Apple Watch app watchOS 10 or later (Apple Watch and Live Activity).

The PC and your devices must be on the same Wi-Fi network (the PC can be on a cable to the same router).

  • The Hub listens on TCP port 49275. Windows asks to allow it through the firewall the first time: allow it on private networks.
  • Guest networks and some mesh or public networks keep devices from seeing each other. Use your main home network.
  • An Apple Pencil for the FlightBook.
  • An Apple Watch paired with your iPhone.
  • An internet connection on the device for the base maps, the weather radar and SimBrief. Download the map ahead for a flight without it (Offline map areas).
  • A game controller, a button box, a keyboard or a MIDI controller, to turn the knobs and press the keys (Keys, controllers and MIDI).
